IJE LIVE WITH PERPIE
It’s IJE Live in London with Perpie on Saturday, April 6th at St. Margaret’s Church, Barking. IG11 8AS
Perpie, who is a Nigerian-Canadian artist, incorporates classical and contemporary music from Africa with jazz, soul, and storytelling.
Her music has been described as soulful and rich, exploring beautiful sounds and drawing refreshing emotions through simple melodies. Her warm, charming tone and lyrical expression on the saxophone help her audience connect on a deep and personal level.
She is dedicated to expanding and bringing her listeners on a musical journey that resonates, and she has performed in Nigeria, London, Beijing, and Canada.
“My artistic expression is greatly influenced by my growing discovery of my heritage: the rich history of the African people, the power of community, the impact of poverty and pain, as well as the essence of faith and grace. All of these reflect my life’s journey.” Says Perpie.
Perpie was nominated for three categories at the 2023 YYC Music awards and won the YYC Music Award for Jazz Recording of the Year.
She was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee Medal in 2023, the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Award in 2022, and the New Canadian Artist Award in 2021.
This event is hosted by the St. Margaret’s, Barking and the Declassical Studio.
